This blog recently discussed potential penalties and consequences of drunk driving charges which can have a tremendous impact on the everyday life of an accused individual. In a Maryland community a couple of hours from the Silver Spring area, a catholic high school principal was recently arrested on several DUI charges.
The 64-year old high school principal was charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol; driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol per se; driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol; as well as other charges related to negligent driving, causing harm and obstructing the roadway. Motor vehicle offenses and allegations can create challenges for accused individuals at work and at home. DUI charges can also create an arrest record and criminal record that is also troublesome.
When facing DUI charges, it is important to know how to respond. It is important to have a thorough understanding of the facts of the situation and the conduct of the police during the arrest beginning with when the authorities pulled over the accused individual. It is also important to ensure that authorities followed all the proper procedures and did not violate any of the accused individual's rights. It is possible it may be necessary to challenge the facts as presented or the conduct of police.
A strong criminal defense strategy is essential to preserving the rights of the accused individual and the criminal justice process provides many protections to accused individuals. It is important that accused individuals are familiar with those protections and the resources available through the criminal justice system.
