Evidence found after traffic stop leads to SWAT raid

Most of our readers know that being in possession of certain types of firearms can result in criminal charges in Maryland. What many do not know is that the same can be said about certain individuals who are in possession of ammunition as well.

A recent report noted that two individuals were arrested in Aberdeen for weapons-related criminal charges that include charges for possession of dangerous weapons, regulated weapons, possession of weapons by a felon and illegal possession of ammunition. But, unlike many other types of firearms cases, these arrests did not arise from an extensive investigation. Instead, the two individuals were arrested after an alleged police chase.

The report details that one of the suspects, a 37-year-old man, allegedly ran away from a traffic stop on foot and was pursued by law enforcement officials. When the officers caught up to the suspect, he was detained and his vehicle was searched. The officers claim they found enough evidence to execute a search of the man's residence, but not just any search - a search led by an early-morning SWAT raid.

When the law enforcement officers entered the suspect's residence, they located another suspect - a 36-year-old man. In searching the residence, the officers allegedly found loaded firearms and more than 9,000 rounds of ammunition. Now, both of the suspects are facing significant felony charges related to gun possession. It is likely that the first step in the criminal defense efforts will be to examine the evidence that led to the search of the home to see if it justified the issuance of a search warrant.
