A 52-year-old Churchton man is facing multiple sex crime charges after allegedly abducting a 12-year-old girl. Charges against the man include sexual solicitation of a minor, indecent exposure, false imprisonment, kidnapping, second degree assault, fourth degree sex offense, attempted third degree sex offense and kidnapping a child under 16.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on July 5 around 3:09 p.m., after police responded to a call about a 12-year-old girl who reportedly was abducted. Police state that during an interview with the girl, she told them that she had been out walking in the area of South Cherry Grove Avenue and Skippers Lane when she was hauled inside a vehicle by a man. She stated that the man then drove them to a street that was nearby and then made an attempt to assault her. The girl told police that she was able to get out of the vehicle, however, and then ran away. Police state that the girl was not injured in the alleged attempted assault.
Upon further questioning, the girl was able to take the officers to Belle Drive where the vehicle was still parked although the man was gone. Investigators were then able to identify the girl's alleged abductor by the registration of his vehicle. He was later taken into custody on July 6 after investigators located him inside a home on Brightwater Drive. He currently remains behind bars at the Jennifer Road Detention Center pending the outcome of his hearing.
Defendants charged with sex offenses against children may face a damage of reputation to their professional and personal life before they are even convicted. An experience Maryland criminal attorney may be able to assist defendants who face these types of charges.
