Maryland man faces charges for alleged Home Depot thefts

A 54-year-old Maryland man is facing theft by fraud or deception charges after being taken into custody and arrested on July 2. Anne Arundel County police state that his arrest was made in connection with two theft incidents the man allegedly committed in Davidsonville and Glen Burnie.

The arrest stemmed from an incident that began around 9 a.m. on May 2. That's when police say they were called to the Home Depot store in Glen Burnie after receiving a phone call about a reported theft. According to police, a loss prevention officer stated that the man had reportedly taken several items from the store, including copper flashing with a value of $567. The man then allegedly made an attempt to return the items although he did not have a receipt.

Police state that a cashier working at the store wrote down the information from the man's Maryland driver's license and refused to issue a return on the merchandise. The man then allegedly picked up the items and took them from the store without paying for them.

During a further investigation, investigators determined that the man had allegedly attempted a similar scenario back on April 4 at the same Home Depot. The amount of items taken during that reported theft totaled $2,423.

Police were later allegedly able to gain a positive identification of the man after watching a surveillance video. He was taken into custody after officers pulled him over during a traffic stop.
