Maryland man arrested for alleged attempt to hire boys for sex

A 58-year-old former Carroll County school teacher and current summer camp employee has been charged with sexual solicitation of a minor and related charges. The charges stem from a July 15 incident in which the man allegedly tried to pay two teenage boys for sex.

According to authorities, the Crimes Against Children Unit received a tip that the man was searching for a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy that he could pay to have sex with him. A detective involved in the case assumed the identity of a pimp and began an online discussion with the man. The detective then also posed as a 15-year-old boy and had an online conversation with the man about engaging in a sexual act with him

During the conversation, the detective reportedly informed the man that he could meet with the two boys he was interested in at a Baltimore County hotel. When the man arrived at the hotel and went to the appointed room, the door was opened by the police instead. The man was subsequently taken into custody.

The defendant currently remains behind bars at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Bail has been set at $100,000.

Sex offenses that involve minors can have serious consequences for defendants if they are convicted. They not only may have to serve jail time, but could also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney may be able to assist defendants who are charged with these types of crimes and work with them to provide a solid criminal defense.
