Maryland woman sentenced for allegedly texting child porn

A 46-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography was sentenced to five years in prison after a June 11 hearing in Baltimore Federal District Court. The woman's 43-year-old ex-husband, who had also entered into a plea agreement back in April for child pornography and other related charges, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison and then a lifetime of supervised release.

The charges and sentencing of the woman stemmed from incidents of possessing and producing child pornography that allegedly dated back as far as 2008. According to the criminal complaint, the woman complied with her then-husband's request for her to take sexually explicit photographs of two young minor girls who were staying in the couple's care.

Documents state that between August and December 2008, the woman took around 50 photographs of the girls that she texted to her husband's cell phone. Police state that the woman's alleged involvement came to light when police began investigating the man after reportedly receiving information that there were images and videos of child pornography on the hard drive of his computer.

Both the woman and her ex-husband will be required to register as sex offenders on the Sex Offender Registry upon their release.

Sex offenses that involve children can have serious consequences such as damage to the reputation for a defendant's personal and professional life. Defendants may even be forced to register for a lifetime with the Sex Offender Registry if they are convicted. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney can assist a defendant and help ensure that his or her rights are protected during this difficult legal process.
