Maryland student charged with rape at high school

A 17-year-old Parkside High School student from Delmar in Wicomico County has been charged with multiple sex crimes for the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. Charges against the young man include first and second degree assault and kidnapping as well as first and second degree rape.

According to the superintendent of the high school, the charges stem from an incident that occurred in May of last year around 8 a.m. while classes were in session. The girl reportedly told authorities that the student had made sexual advances toward her before dragging her down a hallway where he proceeded to rape her.

According to court documents, the girl reportedly told the student that she was not interested in having sex with him multiple times before the rape occurred. After the alleged attack, the girl then told school administrators who contacted the police.

The student received a $100,000 bond and has since been released. Investigators from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office have refused to comment on the incident. They have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.

The rape of a minor can have serious consequences for a defendant such as jail time and having to register as a sex offender for life on the sex offender registry in the state that they live. Young offenders could even find themselves in the unfortunate predicament of being charged for their crimes as an adult. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney may be able to help a young defendant form a strong criminal defense and work to ensure that they are treated fairly by the court system.
