Former Maryland pitcher faces extradition for child sex crimes

A 41-year-old man who once played as a Frederick Keys pitcher and had recently been working as a social studies teacher at a high school in the state of Washington, is facing charges for the alleged sexual abuse of a child. The man has been charged with third=degree and second-degree sex offenses for child abuse.

The charges stemmed from an investigation that began back in November, 2007 when a 25-year-old adult male was accused of allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old boy. The case was later suspended, however, after investigators were unable to provide probable cause for an arrest. According to authorities, the investigation was reopened in May 2014, after Frederick Police were notified by the Vancouver Police Department in Washington that there was new information available relating to the 2007 case.

A spokesperson for the Frederick Police stated that after being picked up in Vancouver, Washington state authorities re-interviewed the man. This reportedly gave investigators enough information to establish the probable cause that was needed to charge the man with sexual abuse of the boy as far back as 2007.

The man remains behind bars in Washington as he awaits extradition back to Maryland. He is currently on administrative leave form the high school where he teaches.

Sex offenses against children can have serious repercussions for defendants such as loss of job and damage to reputation. They may additionally face jail time and a lifetime of having to register as a sex offender each time the defendant moves. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant and could work to help reduce charges for these types of crimes.
