Maryland man accused of allegedly raping 14-year-old daughter

A 38-year-old Maryland man has been charged with multiple sex crimes for the alleged rape of his 14-year-old daughter. The charges against the man include sexual abuse of a minor, second-degree assault, third and fourth degree sex offense and second degree rape.

According to court documents, the charges stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred on Dec. 24, 2013, when the daughter went to her father's house to visit him for Christmas. An investigation into the incident began on Dec. 30 after the mother reported to police that her daughter had told her that her father had raped her. Police state that during an interview the girl reportedly told police that she had fallen asleep on the man's bed while watching television and awoke to find him touching her around the waist. He then removed her pants and raped her. She also maintained that he had allegedly been raping her since she was 8 years old, however, she was unable to remember a lot of the details about the other incidents.

A trial date has been set for July 22. If convicted, the man could face up to 25 years for sexual abuse of a minor and up 15 years of jail time if found guilty of second degree rape. Although the man has no former criminal record, he has been involved in legal issues for child support with individuals other than the girl's mother and is currently involved in a custody hearing with her. The man's attorney maintains that these types of accusations are not uncommon for these types of legal cases and an independent investigation into the allegations is continuing.

Accusations of sexual assault against children can have serious consequences for a defendant's personal and professional life. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant who is accused of these types of charges.
