Maryland men face theft charges for allegedly stealing deaf puppy

A 37-year-old Baltimore man and his 33-year-old male accomplice have been charged with first-degree burglary and theft from $1,000 to under $10,000. The charges against the two stemmed from a March 13 incident in which the pair allegedly broke into a couple's Timonium area apartment by entering the premises through a sliding glass door to burglarize the residence.

According to a police statement, the two men allegedly stole an assortment of items from the couple's apartment, including a 55-inch flat screen television, a PlayStation 3 and other electronic items belonging to the apartment's tenants. In addition to the items, the pair also allegedly stole a 13-week-old deaf pit bull puppy.

A local Baltimore television station, WJZ-13, reported that interest in the story and efforts by the Timonium couple eventually led investigators to a tip that the two men were reportedly interested in selling the puppy back to his owners. A sting operation was then set up by police for the two men to meet the male owner at a local mall. The two men were subsequently arrested when they arrived at the designated location and brought along the couple's puppy.

The men currently remain behind bars at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Bail has been set at $20,000 for each of the two men.

Criminal charges such as first-degree burglary and theft can have serious penalties, and a defendant who faces these types of accusations could face a lengthy prison sentence. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant in getting these types of charges reduced or potentially even dismissed.
