Kentucky athletic director faces sex charges in Baltimore

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 18 for a Kentucky man accused of allegedly assaulting a woman at a rented apartment in Baltimore. The man, who is an athletic director for Whitley County High School in Kentucky, faces numerous charges, including first degree assault, second degree rape, second degree assault, and second, third, and fourth degree sexual offense.

The charges stem from a Jan. 20 incident in which a 23-year-old woman claims that the high school band director assaulted her after reportedly putting something in her drink. Court documents state that she reported to investigators that she and the man had been drinking when the man offered her a narcotic tablet, which the alleged victim says she took.

As they continued drinking, she stated that she began to feel that something was not right and started to black out. The man then allegedly began performing sexual acts on her.

According to The New Journal, a Whitley online publication, Baltimore police were subsequently informed of the assault on Jan. 21 after police responded to a call from a hospital about the alleged sexual assault. The woman reportedly told police that her mother's fiancé had assaulted her the night before.

After completing an investigation into the incident, police arrested the man, who is currently being held without bond. He has also been placed on unpaid leave by the Whitley County School Board.

Sex crimes such as a sexual assault can have serious consequences and defendants could face a criminal trial and prison time. An experienced Maryland attorney could work to ensure that a defendant is treated fairly throughout the lengthy legal process.
