Frederick man's murder trial resumes after unexpected delays

A 50-year-old Frederick, Maryland, man was expected back in court today after a series of weather delays and a federal holiday delayed his trial for almost a week. The man, who has been in jail since his arrest on Feb. 12, 2013, has been charged with first-degree murder, robbery, theft and gun crimes.

The charges stem from the alleged discovery of a spent .38 caliber bullet casing and traces of blood from a 37-year-old man that were found in a warehouse belonging to the defendant. The man's body was later located inside the trunk of his Lexus, which was discovered in a parking lot in Montgomery County. A pound of marijuana and $1000 cash were also recovered from inside the vehicle.

According to CBS Baltimore, the two men had been under police surveillance prior to the alleged murder and had met a couple of times before the victim's death. Police state that the pair had met two days prior to the disappearance of the victim on Nov. 30.

When questioned on Dec. 1, the man allegedly told police that it had been about a month since he had last seen the victim. The man was subsequently arrested after attempting to board an international flight in the state of New York and was later extradited back to Maryland.

Murder charges are a serious crime that can have severe consequences when there is a criminal conviction. An experienced criminal attorney might be able to help a defendant throughout the lengthy legal process and work to ensure that they are treated fairly.
