Maryland man faces sexual assault charge for alleged rape

When a man has sex with a woman, he must make sure that she is consenting to the act. When a woman is incapacitated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs – even prescription drugs – her judgment can be impaired. A Maryland woman is accusing her house guest of sexual assault after he allegedly assaulted her while she was sleeping.

The incident occurred on Dec. 29. The woman had taken prescription drugs before going to bed. When she woke up, she found her clothes in disarray. She accused her house guest, a 40-year-old Lexington Park man, of sexually assaulting her while she was asleep.

The woman was taken to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital to be examined. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division arrived at the hospital to investigate the alleged assault. The evidence obtained was enough to place the man under arrest. Police found the man on Jan. 1 at an apartment in Maryland. He was charged with second-degree sexual assault and placed in jail with no bail set. The woman has since been released from the hospital.

A sexual assault charge can be devastating for all those involved. It can cause damage to the suspect’s reputation and professional life. Those convicted of some sex crimes could be placed on a sex offender registry for the rest of their life, which can ruin a person’s career, particularly if they choose a career that involves children. It is important that those accused of these charges seek the legal help they need to maintain their innocence.
