Baltimore man charged with involuntary manslaughter after crash

A 24-year-old Baltimore man is behind bars and has been charged with DUI and involuntary manslaughter after being involved in a deadly crash in Rosslyn, Virginia. The accident occurred early Friday morning.

Court records show that the man, who had gotten his license suspended back in 2012 for a DWI, had just received his license back about a month ago after a year-long suspension. Records also showed that he has had numerous other traffic violations in the past, including public intoxication, reckless driving, speeding and disregarding traffic lights.

The accident occurred at the corner of Ft. Myer Drive and Lee Highway near the Key Bridge. The man, who was reportedly driving a Jeep Wrangler, was headed eastbound when the vehicle he was driving t-boned a Chrysler Crossfire that was being driven by a 24-year-old Arlington man.

The man was rushed by paramedics to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead from his injuries. Although police initially feared that a pedestrian had been struck due to the accident's close proximity to a crosswalk, it was later determined that the driver of the other vehicle was the only fatality.

The 24-year-old man stayed at the scene after the accident and was taken in by police for questioning. He currently remains in the Arlington County Detention Center on no bond. The accident remains under investigation.

Driving while impaired is a serious crime that can result in jail time, stiff fines and the loss of a license. However, when someone is killed or seriously injured in an accident involving a drunk driver, the consequences are more severe. An experienced Maryland attorney may help to ensure that a defendant's rights are protected throughout the difficult legal process.
