Police charge 2 drivers with DUI in fatal car accident

According to the Baltimore County police, a Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on York Road when he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic on Nov. 7. He struck a vehicle carrying an elderly couple before crossing back into the path of a Dodge Dart in the northbound lanes.

The 85-year-old and 84-year-old couple who were traveling southbound when the accident occurred died as a result of their injuries. A third person, a 79-year-old female, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was reported to be in critical condition.

The driver who caused the accident, a 22-year-old male, was cited for DUI. The 23-year-old driver of the Dodge was also cited for DUI. Both individuals are from Sparks. At the time the report was released, the accident was still under investigation.

Being convicted of DUI can have severe consequences for many people. For example, if they have prior convictions, they may face a prison sentence, lose their driving privileges and be responsible for a hefty fine. In addition, convictions may also appear on their criminal records, which could potentially make it difficult for them to find suitable employment, especially if they need to drive as a part of a job.

A Maryland DUI attorney may help their client reduce the penalties in the event that their client is convicted of DUI. For example, the attorney may negotiate a plea bargain that results in the minimum prison sentence and the minimum fines associated with the conviction. If the attorney finds that the police reports do not correspond with the evidence from the case, they may be able to convince the court to drop the charges altogether.
