Charges filed in Maryland bike shop robbery

Police say they found five of the seven dirt bikes that were allegedly stolen from a Maryland business. Officers uncovered the theft from a motorcycle shop shortly after the robbery happened when they noticed two people pushing an off-road motorcycle. Authorities took four males into custody on various charges of robbery and theft. The defendants include two men ages 18 and 19 respectively and two juveniles.

Anne Arundel County Police said the robbery happened around 11:45 p.m. Nov 8 in the 5800 block of Ritchie Highway South in Brooklyn. One of the officers investigating where the dirt bikes came from discovered evidence of a robbery at the nearby motorcycle store. Police said they took some into custody, including one a K-9 unit found hiding beneath a vehicle and another man they spotted walking near the store. Two men in the case were in a minivan in the area when they tried to evade a traffic stop. They fled with officers in pursuit, and police took the adult driver and teenage passenger into custody after the vehicle crashed in Baltimore City.

The five dirt bikes that the officers found were recovered from various locations. The resident of a home in the 100 block of Hammonds Lane called to report there were four dirt bikes in their driveway that someone had placed there. Authorities found another bike in the 200 block of Comrose Avenue.

Convictions on property crime charges can bring harsh penalties that affect youthful offenders for years. In this case, none of the defendants were found with the stolen property. An attorney could investigate the circumstances and might be able to have some of the evidence suppressed, and charges dismissed or reduced. If conviction looked likely, they could negotiate a plea deal for lighter penalties.
