Cal Ripkin's mother claims someone tried to rob her in Aberdeen

Residents of Maryland are taking note of an alleged armed robbery case involving the mother of Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripkin. The alleged incident took place in the town of Aberdeen.

Police claim that a 33-year-old man from the city of Havre de Grace approached Cal Ripken's mother with a firearm in an area not far from the NBRS Bank branch. The man allegedly attempted to steal the 75-year-old woman's vehicle and other valuables but ran away when she was able to remotely activate her car alarm. Cal Ripkin's mother, who was unharmed, entered the NBRS Bank and reported the alleged incident. A representative for the Aberdeen police indicated that they were able to view find footage of the incident on the bank's ATM camera. A man resembling the individual in the ATM footage was taken into custody some hours later.

In addition to robbery and carjacking charges, the man was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a deadly weapon. This was not the first time Cal Ripken's mother was apparently a victim of a violent crime. In the summer of 2012, she was reportedly kidnapped from her home by an armed gunman but released the next day. Although a $100,000 reward was offered for information in the case, so far no one has been charged in the case.

Individuals who are facing serious criminal charges may need professional help to prepare their defense. Attorneys working in the area of criminal law may be able to help their client's to navigate the sometimes confusing legal process and work to have the charges reduced or dismissed.
