Maryland man accused of stealing car, driving without license

A routine traffic stop resulted in a Maryland man being taken into police custody on Sept. 8 in the Pasadena area, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The man was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

According to an officer patrolling at Mountain Road and Route 648 around 6:30 a.m., a red Chevrolet Chevelle was traveling down the road. The late model car apparently matched the description of a vehicle taken during a burglary at a residence in the 8100 block of Elizabeth Road. That burglary also happened on Sept. 7 in Pasadena.

The officer allegedly confirmed that the vehicle was stolen before he stopped the driver. The traffic stop took place near Mountain Road near Freetown Road, according to police officials. During the stop, the officer discovered the driver, a 36-year-old from Pasadena, had a suspended and revoked driver's license. He was taken into custody for auto theft. In addition, he is also accused of driving with suspended and revoked driving privileges. The vehicle was returned to its owner. Police say that the man has been linked to the burglary that apparently happened the previous day.

Since crimes like theft, burglary and auto theft can carry prison sentences and fines, many individuals accused of the crimes may hire a criminal attorney. An attorney may be able to negotiate a plea deal with the state. The plea bargain may provide an individual with a lighter sentence in exchange for a guilty plea. If the individual doesn't want to pursue a plea bargain, an attorney may investigate the facts of the case to mount a defense. He or she may also present evidence at trial to rebut the prosecutor's case.
