A Maryland man was taken into police custody and charged with sex abuse of a minor and of a family member in addition to other charges. If convicted, he may face severe punishments, including having to go through sex offender registration.
According to the report, the man was charged after an investigation was conducted into an alleged sexual assault of a female minor. He, in addition to being charged with sex abuse of a minor, he is also facing charges for second degree child abuse by a parent, second degree assault and fourth degree sex offense. Allegations of sexual assault, particularly when minors are involved, can be emotionally devastating and life-altering for all of those involved. Those who are convicted of any sex crime are required to be listed on the sex offender registry for at least 15 years. This can affect the person’s professional life, family life and living situations. However, many allegations of sexual abuse are unfounded and are used to attempt to disrupt someone’s life. If someone is accused of a sex abuse crime, they may wish to speak with an attorney immediately.
An experienced Maryland attorney may be able to help fight the allegations or reduce the charges and punishments against their client. Regardless of the crime, a criminal defense attorney may attempt to fight against sex offense registration. In addition, the attorney may be able to challenge the evidence against their client. The attorney may represent those who are accused of sex crimes and are facing jail time and other severe sentences.
