A Stevensville man allegedly driving while intoxicated ran into an Ocean City municipal vehicle bus on June 2. According to Ocean City police, the man is accused of running a stop sign before colliding with a municipal bus. He is also accused of fleeing the scene after the accident.

The Police and EMS were called to 7th Street and Philadelphia Avenue at around 3 a.m. the morning of the accident because someone reported a motor vehicle collision involving a car and bus. According to the initial investigation, the 20-year old man was allegedly headed west on 7th Street when he may have ran a stop sign and then collided with the unoccupied parked bus. The man was taken into police custody a short time later after officers heard a broadcasted description of the vehicle suspected of causing the accident. Police didn’t not reveal his blood alcohol content level at the time he was taken into custody.

The individual was charged with 17 counts related to the car-bus crash, including failing to remain at the scene and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released from jail on a $10,000 unsecured bond. The accident is the second time in three weeks that a city-owned vehicle has been involved in a traffic accident. On May 18, a driver of a commercial vehicle was accused of hitting a police car. It is not known if the driver involved in that accident faces any charges.

Many individuals who are charged with driving under the influence seek the help of a criminal lawyer. A criminal lawyer representing clients can talk to the prosecutor and negotiate a plea bargain for less jail time or a conviction of a lesser charge.
