Alleged top Maryland heroin dealer taken into police custody

A Maryland man has been taken into police custody after a three-month investigation was conducted by authorities. The man is believed to be one of the top heroin dealers in Southern Maryland. He faces multiple drug charges, including possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

The man was discovered after police had taken into custody another individual for similar drug possession charges. When investigating the individual's phone, they discovered text messages to the man that referenced drug sales and other related information. Several confidential informants gave tips to the authorities on the man's location and warnings that he was known to carry a firearm.

In June, the authorities conducted mobile surveillance of the man. He was seen visiting houses where residents were known to be involved with the sale of the drugs and was allegedly seen being involved in 'hand-to-hand" sales.

Members of the Drug Enforcement Unit and the Calvert County Sheriff's Office pulled the man's vehicle over for a traffic stop. Approximately 100 grams of heroin and an unspecified amount of cash was recovered during the subsequent vehicle search. According to the files, the man waived his Miranda rights before admitting to officers that he was a dealer of the drug and that he made a large amount of money doing so.

Any individual that is accused of a drug-related crime has the right to seek an attorney to make sure their rights are protected. An experienced Maryland attorney may be able to reduce or dismiss the charges by challenging any traffic stops and car or residence searches if he believes that the authorities did not have probable cause. If a conviction looks likely, the attorney may also be able to negotiate with prosecutors to reduce the sentence.
