A Maryland man who police were searching for after the shooting of the mother of his child has been arrested about 90 miles north of Silver Spring.
The suspect, 31 years old, was taken into custody in Elkton. He now faces a charge of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He also faces a charge of possession of a firearm during a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited from having a gun.
The woman was shot in the face in late September in Newark, Delaware, law enforcement officials said.
She is recovering from her injuries, a media report indicates.
According to police, there was an argument between the man now in custody and the woman who was shot. Witnesses reportedly told officers that a man fled the shooting scene in a white Infiniti; the suspect apparently drives a similar vehicle.
After the shooting, a white Infiniti was found on fire at a nearby apartment complex. Officers who arrived on the scene found it had a lit rag stuffed in the opening for the gas tank.
They also said that they were able to connect the vehicle to the suspect.
An arrest warrant was issued and the suspect was eventually traced to Elkton, where he was arrested in a parking lot.
