Police accuse four young people with larcenies, car break-ins

Sometimes people make mistakes. There isn't a single person in Silver Spring that hasn't made a mistake at least once in his or her life, and most people made a few more mistakes than they'd like to admit while they are young. Although most accidents can quickly be forgiven and forgotten, there are some that come with harsh criminal penalties. Unfortunately, not many Maryland judges will let someone off for merely making an error in judgment.

Police are looking for and have alleged that four young people have been involved in a series of car break-ins. The four young adults are 21-years-old or younger; two of them are still teenagers. Officers have arrested two of the suspects and are looking for two others, claiming they have stolen from people's vehicles. All four have been charged with various theft crimes, including larceny.

It is unknown what punishment the young adults would face if they were convicted of their charges, but for only allegedly breaking into a few cars, there is a long list of charges. All four have been charged with destruction of property, petit larceny, grand larceny, conspiracy and credit card theft.

These four youth deserve to have a fair chance to defend themselves with the help of a criminal defense attorney. Even if they are found guilty, it may be more beneficial for a judge to take into account their ages and other factors, sentencing them to probation or a greatly reduced sentence. They don't seem like hardened criminals that need years behind bars, but rather lost, young adults who may have made a few errors in judgment along the way.
