Maryland man arrested after drug bust at Travelodge

A 44-year-old Frederick, Maryland, man has been charged with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possessing drug paraphernalia. The charges stemmed from an investigation by Frederick police that was conducted after investigators reportedly received a tip that the man was allegedly planning to sell crack cocaine from a room at a Travelodge located on Monocacy Boulevard.

According to court documents, during their surveillance police initially observed the man leaving the Travelodge and discarding a white bag into a trashcan before leaving the premises. After retrieving the bag, officers reportedly discovered a variety of items, including blue disposable gloves, a rental receipt for a room that belonged to a woman, and small bags with the corners torn off that police indicated were being used for drugs. A test on the white bag also allegedly showed traces of cocaine residue.

During a subsequent search of the man's hotel room and vehicle, investigators allegedly recovered $22,700 in cash in his vehicle along with 7 ounces of crack cocaine that officials determined was worth between $18,000 and $20,000 in the man's hotel room. An electronic scale, razor blades, and empty plastic bags were also found at the scene of the man's hotel room, as well as his driver's license issued from the state of Maryland.

The man is currently being held at the Frederick County Detention Center in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Drug charges such as drug distribution and possession of drug paraphernalia can have serious consequences for a defendant if he or she is convicted. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney could work with a defendant to help try to reduce these types of charges and to ensure that the defendant is treated fairly during the legal process.
