Maryland teen arrested after shooting father

An Baltimore County 18-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing his father. The alleged incident occurred on Feb. 27, 2013, and stemmed from an argument that the two were having.

According to police records, the teen and his 52-year-old father started having an argument. As it escalated, the teenager took out what police have described as a large-caliber weapon and allegedly proceeded to shoot his father several times. Officers that responding to a call about a shooting at an apartment in the vicinity of Paulette Road discovered that the father had been shot. They then took the son into custody. Although the father was transported to an area hospital, he was later pronounced dead.

The teenager currently remains behind bars and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

According to an October 2010 report made by the nonprofit group Parentline Plus, the number and intensity of attacks from children against their parents is on the rise. They stated that during a two-year period, their reports show that out of some 22,537 calls made to their organization, almost 7,000 of them were parents that were calling in to discuss that they had been physically abused by their children.

Criminal charges such as first-degree murder against a family member can have serious penalties and could result in a lengthy prison sentence. An experienced Maryland criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant with their legal defense and could help work to ensure that the defendant is treated fairly throughout the lengthy legal process.
