Maryland man charged with armed robbery

A man has been taken into custody in connection with an alleged stun gun robbery that sent one person to a hospital. According to police, the man has been charged with multiple counts of armed robbery assault.

The defendant was taken into custody on Nov. 20 without incident. In addition to the armed robbery charges, he was charged with possession with intent to distribute and drug possession because officers found suspected crack cocaine next to the defendant when they took him into custody. He is being held on a bail of $25,000 at the Montgomery County Detention Center.

The charges were filed in connection with an incident that allegedly took place on Nov. 17 in the 700 block of First Street in Rockville. The alleged victim was approached by three males who zapped him with a stun gun and then punched and kicked him when he fell to the ground, according to police. The three males reportedly robbed the victim, taking prescription medication, money and the victim's jacket. The victim required treatment at a hospital for injuries sustained in the robbery.

Armed robbery is a serious charge and might result in severe penalties for someone who is convicted. Such penalties might include prison time, fines, mandatory community service and probation. Additionally, individuals with criminal records often find it difficult to get a job or qualify for housing.

There are instances when law enforcement officers charge an innocent person with a serious crime. A dedicated criminal defense attorney may work to find additional evidence to prove the innocence of someone facing serious criminal charges. On the other hand, if a defendant admits some responsibility, the attorney may work to find other options. One such option might be a plea deal in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty or offers valuable information in exchange for a more lenient sentence.
